Nigeria to Create Legal Framework for Stablecoins

According to Nigeria’s central bank strategy paper titled “Nigeria Payments System Vision 2023,” the country is considering to establish a regulatory framework for stablecoins. The document stated that there is a necessity to develop such a framework since making stablecoins a payment mechanism in the country is projected to succeed.

Apart from stablecoins, Nigeria will also create a regulatory framework for initial coin offerings (ICOs). It said in the report that the absence of regulation of ICOs is the culprit of a large amount of losses.
